Centre-Out
Lead from who you are becoming.
Centre-Out is a Christian leadership formation framework for pastors, ministry workers and emerging leaders who want to grow in self-awareness, emotional maturity, relational wisdom and sustainable leadership.
Because leadership does not begin with technique.
It begins with the person who is leading.
Leadership begins beneath the surface
Most leadership development begins with what leaders do.
Centre-Out begins somewhere deeper.
It asks:
Who am I becoming as I lead?
Every leader brings themselves into every room they enter.
We bring our history, relationships, strengths, fears, assumptions, spiritual life and familiar ways of responding under pressure. These patterns influence the way we communicate, make decisions, handle conflict, care for people and carry responsibility.
Centre-Out helps leaders notice those patterns without shame, understand them with greater clarity and respond with increasing freedom.
This is not simply a course about becoming more productive or impressive.
It is a journey of Christian formation.
The aim is not leadership mastery.
It is deeper participation in the transforming life of Christ.
Healthy leadership grows from the centre out—from identity rather than anxiety, from love rather than fear, and from communion with Christ rather than the demands of the crowd.
You may be leading faithfully—and still feeling stretched
Many Christian leaders are carrying more than anyone else can see.
You may be:
replaying conversations long after they have ended
absorbing other people’s disappointment
finding it difficult to say no
carrying responsibilities that belong to others
avoiding a conversation because you fear relational fallout
feeling responsible for keeping everyone calm
becoming reactive when pressure rises
wondering how long your present pace can continue
longing to lead with greater peace, clarity and freedom
These experiences do not necessarily mean that you are failing.
They may be invitations to grow.
Centre-Out creates space to slow down, become curious and attend to what God may be forming beneath the surface of your leadership.
Formation before function
Centre-Out is built around one central conviction:
The most significant influence you bring to leadership is the person you are becoming.
Skills matter.
Knowledge matters.
Competence matters.
But people do not only experience what a leader knows or accomplishes.
They experience the leader’s presence.
They experience whether the leader listens.
Whether they remain steady.
Whether they take responsibility without taking over.
Whether they can speak honestly without becoming controlling.
Whether they stay connected when disagreement comes.
Whether they can carry authority without needing to prove themselves.
Centre-Out helps leaders bring their inner formation, relational life, spiritual practices and everyday ministry leadership into one integrated journey.
The Centre-Out Framework
The framework moves through five interconnected movements.
Each movement asks a different leadership question.
Together, they form a pathway from awareness to mature, sustainable practice.
Centre-Out gives leaders memorable language they can return to in real situations.
Not only during a course lesson.
During a difficult meeting.
After a confronting email.
Before a major decision.
In supervision.
In prayer.
In the car after church.
Throughout the journey, participants learn to ask:
A shared language for mature leadership
-
Observation before assumption.
-
Curiosity before certainty.
-
Responsibility without control.
-
Clarity without emotional distance.
-
Patterns before problems.
-
Wisdom rather than urgency.
-
Surrender rather than control.
These questions gradually become more than course language.
They become ways of thinking, praying and leading.
The language of Centre-Out
Lead from the centre
Allow leadership to flow from a life rooted in Christ rather than from anxiety, approval or urgency.
Formation before function
Attend not only to what you are accomplishing, but to who you are becoming.
Presence before performance
Remember that people often experience your presence before they experience your competence.
Patterns before problems
Look beyond the apparent problem to understand the relationships, anxiety and recurring patterns around it.
Curiosity before certainty
Resist rushing to assumptions about yourself, others or the situation.
Respond rather than react
Create enough space between emotion and action to choose a faithful response.
Defined and connected
Remain clear about your convictions, responsibilities and limits while staying genuinely present in relationship.
Carry what is yours
Take appropriate responsibility without rescuing others or attempting to control outcomes.
Faithful over flawless
Release the demand to lead perfectly and seek the most faithful response available today.
The long view
Allow time for formation, relationships and healthy change to develop.
Return to centre
When anxiety, conflict or pressure pulls you away from yourself, return to Christ, your values and your actual responsibility.
Six practices for reflective Christian leadership
Centre-Out is not built around information alone.
It includes six practical rhythms that help participants translate insight into daily leadership.
These practices are introduced progressively and revisited throughout the course.
-
Remain grounded in your identity, convictions and responsibilities while staying open, curious and relationally present.
-
Slow the movement from automatic reaction to thoughtful, faithful response.
-
See the relational system around a challenge rather than focusing only on one person or presenting problem.
-
Move from observation through prayerful discernment, responsible action, clear communication and release.
-
Clarify responsibility so that you can act faithfully without becoming passive, controlling or over-responsible.
-
Build sustainable leadership by receiving support, reordering priorities and releasing what is no longer yours to carry.
One integrated way of leading
When a difficult situation arises, a Centre-Out leader learns to:
Pause and notice what is happening.
Become curious about the wider story.
Widen the lens through the Systems Map.
Clarify what belongs to themselves, other people and God.
Consider how to remain defined and connected.
Use the Decision Circle where action is needed.
Receive support, reorder priorities or release responsibility.
Entrust the outcome to God.
Sometimes that process unfolds over several weeks.
Sometimes it happens quietly in a few moments.
The goal is not to perform each step perfectly.
The goal is to become less governed by automatic reactivity and more available to thoughtful, prayerful leadership.

A Formation Journey You Can Take in Two Ways
Centre‑Out is a 24-session Christian leadership formation journey, bringing together guided teaching, Scripture, prayer, reflection, practical exercises and the six Centre‑Out Practices across five movements.
You can move through the course independently, taking each session at your own pace. Or you can undertake the journey with me through monthly one-to-one mentoring. Together, we will work through each session and explore how the material connects with your particular story, relationships, ministry context and current season of leadership.
Whichever pathway you choose, Centre‑Out is designed to connect formation with the realities of ministry. Each session helps you reflect on what is happening within you, around you and through your leadership—so that growth takes place in the midst of real life, rather than apart from it.

Her approach is thoughtful, warm and deeply practical: creating space for leaders to notice patterns, widen their perspective and discern faithful next steps.
You do not have to wait until leadership becomes unsustainable
Formation takes time.
Healthy change is rarely dramatic.
It develops as we learn to notice earlier, reflect more honestly, respond more thoughtfully and return repeatedly to Christ.
Centre-Out offers a place to begin.
