Module overview
Understanding your Working Genius helps explain how you naturally contribute.
But that is only part of the model.
Working Genius also provides a framework for understanding how work actually gets done.
Every project, initiative, problem or opportunity involves different kinds of work at different moments. Problems arise when we instinctively move toward the kinds of work we enjoy while overlooking activities that the work itself requires.
This section shifts the focus from:
“What am I good at?”
to:
“What does the work require?”
The goal is to learn how to diagnose work, recognise where it may be getting stuck, and identify which kind of contribution is needed next.
BY THE END OF THIS MODULEParticipants should be able to:
understand the six Working Geniuses as six activities of work
recognise the three broad stages through which work moves
identify which stage a project or conversation is currently in
recognise what can happen when stages of work are skipped
distinguish between asking “Who is available?” and “What does the work require?”
identify where their own Genius may cause them to rush toward — or remain within — particular stages
begin diagnosing stalled or ineffective projects using the Working Genius framework
understand the concepts of altitude, Responsive/Disruptive Genius and meeting alignment
recognise what can be done when a required Genius is missing
apply the model to a real piece of work
